OUR STORY
OUR STORY – It All Started with One Patient
Med Luna & Co. is a Latina-owned business created to help bridge the language gap in healthcare and support better communication between providers and patients.
My journey began as a volunteer interpreter at a clinic, where I regularly saw how difficult it was for Spanish-speaking patients to fully understand their care. One of the biggest challenges was knowing that once I left, many patients would still be waiting for help. That experience made me realize there needed to be a simple, accessible way to support communication in those moments leading to the creation of our Medical Spanish badges.
This mission is also shaped by my own experience growing up as a first-generation Latina. I often helped translate for my mom during appointments, which showed me early on how common this situation is for many families. It also highlighted the importance of making communication more accessible so that patients don’t have to rely on their children or untrained individuals.
Med Luna was created to provide healthcare workers with tools that can help bridge that gap, even in a small way, until a certified medical interpreter is available.
Even small efforts to communicate in a patient’s language can help improve comfort, build trust, and support better interactions in clinical settings. At the same time, this work goes beyond language; cultural awareness and understanding are just as important in delivering respectful and effective care.
Despite the diversity in places like Southern California, there is still a need for more accessible medical Spanish resources and support for patients.
As a pre-health student, I’m committed to continuing to address this gap and contribute to improving communication in healthcare.
Med Luna & Co. is one step toward that goal.
